The idea for the Designer Pinecone Collection came from a friend's abundance of the large Longleaf Yellow Pine cones that fell in his yard. He usually gathered them in piles and burned them. Plenty of others are discarded as landfill. Why not recycle those beautiful cones into a piece of household art? After 'carving' on a few specimens, we decided that the cones actually could become attractive little 'palm trees'. The idea for the Palm/Moon design was a natural, since the SC state flag features both of those symbols proudly.
The addition of the crescent moon shape and adding a base were the final touches to the basic design. Spray paints are used to impart the color to the finished Palms, giving them a timeless elegance and color scheme that accents any room. Meant to be displayed as tabletop or shelf decoration, the next idea was to create hanging ornaments from the slightly smaller cones. A smaller crescent moon is utilized to create the proper sense of scale, and natural raffia string completes the design.

The 5-Palm/Moon Island shown above was donated to Ted's Piggy Bank, and was just one of the many items for bid in the silent auction at the Promenade on July 10, 2011.
